AWAGAM, MASS. — July 1, 2013 — Microtest Laboratories President and Scientific Director Steven G. Richter, Ph.D., was recently honored by the Holyoke Community College Alumni Association at its 36th Annual HCC Distinguished Alumni Award Dinner.
Richter was cited as a fervent believer in the power and potential of education and science. Since his founding of Microtest Laboratories in Agawam, Mass., in 1984, Richter has actively led or supported dozens of Western Massachusetts economic development and workforce initiatives and training partnerships with area companies, governments, schools, and colleges.
“As a major employer and a leading economic catalyst in the region’s life sciences industry, it is our mission and our responsibility to nurture future careers, job opportunity and economic growth — as well as strive to discover breakthrough products and services that will better everyone’s health and quality of life,” he said.
Just this spring, Richter was credited by Holyoke Community College President Bill Messner with helping to secure a $3.8 million grant to develop and equip a first-class, 13,000-square-foot Center for Life Sciences and high tech clean room at the college.
Following Richter’s graduation from Holyoke Community College, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts and his doctorate from Columbia Pacific University in California. He founded Microtest Laboratories after serving as an official with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
