Winners of 2013 ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarships Are Announced

FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY, USA, October 3, 2013 ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, announced the recipients of the 2013 ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarship.

The recipients, William (Daniel) Whitten, of Tulsa, Okla., a junior at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas; and Meghan Borz, of Buena, N.J., a senior at Rowan Unversity in Glassboro, N.J., were each awarded a $5,000 scholarship from ASCO Numatics towards their Bachelor’s program degrees in mechanical engineering.

ASCO Numatics will further support their studies with an additional $1,000 grant to the engineering departments at each of their universities.

The ASCO Numatics scholarship program applies that same spirit by helping support leading students in their education to become the next generation leaders in industry and technology,” said Robert W. The ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarship program, now in its sixth year, has awarded a total of $60,000 in merit-based scholarships to 12 students, based on their potential for leadership and for making a significant contribution to the industrial automation engineering profession, particularly as it relates to the application of fluid control and fluid power technologies. Numatics Introduces 503 Series High Flow Rate Directional Control Valves

NOVI, MICHIGAN, USA, November 13, 2012 — ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, has introduced the 503 Series of pneumatic directional control valves with ultra-high flow ratings. The valves are designed for automation and piloting applications across a wide range of automotive and tire, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, packaging equipment, and general machinery applications.

”503 Series valves deliver the industry’s highest flow rates per valve size. ASCO Numatics Announces Winners of 2012 Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarships

FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY, USA, November 8, 2012 – ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, has announced the recipients of the 2012 ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarship. Kelsey Johnson of Brownsburg, Indiana, and Nathan Koetsier of Marne, Michigan, will each receive $5,000 as part of the scholarship program. Additionally, ASCO Numatics will make $1,000 grants to the engineering departments of Purdue University and Michigan Technological University, the schools that Johnson and Koetsier respectively attend.

“This year, ASCO Numatics had the largest and most qualified field of applicants in our scholarship program’s history,” said Robert W. Kemple, Jr., executive vice president, sales and marketing – Americas, ASCO Numatics. “Kelsey and Nathan stood out from the other applicants for their potential to succeed in the industrial automation industry. Johnson will graduate with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in May 2013. Koetsier will also receive a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering in May 2013 from Michigan Technological University.

ASCO Numatics presented the awards as part of PMMI’s annual 2012 Amazing Packaging Race at PACK EXPO Chicago. The race sends teams of packaging students around the exhibition floor to earn points from exhibitors by completing packaging and processing related tasks. ASCO Numatics Announces 2012 Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarships

Streamlined application process simplifies participation

FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY, USA, April 3, 2012 – ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, today announced the 2012/2013 ASCO Numatics Industrial Automation Engineering Scholarship program.  The program awards two $5,000 scholarships to U.S. engineering students pursuing careers in industrial automation-related disciplines. ASCO Numatics will also make $1,000 grants to the engineering departments of the colleges in which the winners are enrolled. The application deadline is May 25, 2012.

“The industrial automation industry is constantly evolving and it is imperative that we evolve with it. Today’s engineering students will lead companies into the next-generation of industrial automation and we are proud to support their efforts,” said Robert W. Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program in an instrumentation, systems, electrical, mechanical, or automation engineering discipline at an accredited U.S. educational institution for the 2012/2013 academic year. Candidates must also maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, and be a U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident. Several changes to this year’s application process will make it easier for engineering students to participate. Numatics SentronicD Proportional Valves Offer Field Adjustment for Rapid Development and Start-Up

NOVI, MICHIGAN, U.S.A., ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, has introduced the Numatics SentronicD line — the first proportional valves that can be fully tuned to an application without being removed from the production process.

“With its Data Acquisition Software (DaS) and a direct-operating solenoid, the SentronicD valve can shave weeks off development and start-up times plus provide production systems with higher performance characteristics for greater throughput and yield,” said Robert W. Kemple, Jr., executive vice president, sales and marketing – Americas, ASCO Numatics. “Now manufacturing and control engineers can incorporate proportional valves that meet their specific application requirements, rather than sub-optimizing their application to accommodate a valve’s capability.”

The SentronicD valve is ideal for PET blow molding, laser cutting, paint spray, web tensioning, balancing, welding, tire industry, leak testing, and polystyrene foam molding applications where precise pressure control is required.

DaS Enables On-Machine Valve Adjustment

Users can adapt the pressure regulator to the control loop in an optimal way with Numatics’ DaS software and RS232 interface while the valve remains installed in the production machine. The scope function allows the logging and read out of the system‘s transient response in real time. Previously saved valve data can be loaded at any time and used as a reference for maintenance and error detection. In addition, the software enables direct interaction with Numatics technical support for factory diagnostics and troubleshooting.

“With DaS, the need to remove the valve for factory adjustment is virtually eliminated,” said Kemple. “For the first time, control engineers can fine tune control parameters with a laptop or netbook while the valve is on the production equipment.”

The SentronicD is available with an optional integrated graphic display that quickly presents key data such as outlet pressure, setpoint and pressure switch signals.

Direct-Acting Solenoid Provides Better Performance

The SentronicD valve incorporates a direct-acting solenoid for faster response and much higher repeatability. This technology is infinitely adjustable and minimizes resolution loss.

“Our SentronicD proportional valve is the preferred solution for control engineers desiring precision pressure control, early identification of application-specific problems, field adjustment, and streamlined development processes,” said Kemple. “For OEMs, it means cutting weeks from production cycles and achieving faster order fulfillment rates.”

ASCO Light Weight Miniature Solenoid Valve Introduced with Extended Life and Higher Flow

FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY, USA, March 2, 2010ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, has introduced the ASCO 411 Series miniature solenoid valve that offers up to twice the life of competing products plus higher flow rate performance. The new valve is ideal for applications in pharmaceutical, medical, analytical, and instrumentation products.

“Now, original equipment manufacturers (OEM) can receive the benefits of longer life, smaller size, lighter weight, higher flow, and lower power consumption — all in one miniature solenoid valve,” said Robert W. Kemple, Jr., Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing – Americas, ASCO Numatics. “The 411 Series dramatically reduces the design tradeoffs and compromises engineers must make in applying valves to their products.”

The 411 Series’ unique plunger design significantly reduces wear on the poppet and is resistant to internal elastomer swelling that can disrupt performance. The new valve has been tested to exceed 500 million cycles in normal operating conditions, making it the longest-lived, most reliable product of its kind on the market.

ASCO has increased the valve’s flow rate by 12% to 15% over previous models, and the maximum operating pressure differential has been improved. “These factors will enable engineers to design products with greater operating speeds, higher pressures, and smaller volumes,” said Kemple.411

The new valve family incorporates a smaller, lighter weight plastic body that achieves a 12% to 15% overall weight reduction when compared to stainless steel and brass-bodied valves. This makes the 411 Series a good choice for miniaturized and portable medical devices and pharmaceutical products. Lower power consumption means the valve also is attractive for use in battery-powered applications. In addition, it is the only miniature solenoid valve that is fully compliant with RoHS regulations.

“The 411 Series is assembled and tested in a specially built Class 100 cleanroom that is dedicated to miniature solenoid valve production,” Kemple said. “Our valve’s exceptional reliability and its flexibility to address a wide range of specifications and operating characteristics provide the OEM with the widest variety of design options.”
