ASCO Modular Gas Safety Shut-Off Valves Introduced

asco-num-01FLORHAM PARK, NEW JERSEY, February 18, 2010 – ASCO Numatics, the world’s leading manufacturer of comprehensive fluid automation, flow control, and pneumatics solutions, today introduced a new family of ASCO modular gas safety shut-off valves with a compact double valve footprint and the industry’s highest flow rates. The valves are ideal for boilers, furnaces, ovens, heating equipment, gas generators, and kilns used in commercial and industrial applications.

“OEM design engineers can downsize their fuel trains by connecting two of our safety shut-off valves for an exceptionally small double valve footprint,” said Robert Kemple, executive vice president, sales and marketing, ASCO Numatics-Americas. “In addition, the valve’s very low pressure drop and extremely high flow capacity provide greater performance even in locations with low gas supply pressure.”

ASCO’s modular gas safety shut-off valves are available in two product families. The 8214(200) Series two-way normally closed solenoid valves can be used for fuel gases up to 5 psi. The V710(B)/AH(E) Series two-way normally closed electro-hydraulic actuated valves can be used with fuel gases up to 15 psi. This series is available with fast- and slow-opening constructions. Both product families come in 3/4’’ to 3’’ pipe sizes and have aluminum body constructions with pressure taps up and downstream.

“ASCO employed state-of-the-art Computational Fluid Dynamic modeling and Finite Element Analysis to optimize the valves’ geometry,” said Kemple. “This gives the valves their exceptional efficiency in a package with high flow, small envelope dimensions, and compact, joinable construction. Now OEMs can design their products for space restrictive applications, and reduce customer installation and maintenance costs,” he said.

The 8214, V710, and AH Series valves can be purchased from ASCO distributors or directly from the company. Most products are available through either the ASCO Today Guaranteed Same-Day Shipping Program or the ASCO 5-Day Program. For more information, contact ASCO at 800-972-ASCO, by e-mail at info-valve@asco.com, or visit www.ascovalve.com.

White Paper Details Environmental Health & Safety Compliance Strategies for Laboratories

NEEDHAM, MASS. – February 28, 2008 – A free white paper that details three specific strategies to improve laboratory environmental health and safety (EH&S) compliance programs is now available for download at http://www.eheinc.com/labprogram.htm.

“Small and midsized companies and institutions with laboratories must manage complex environmental health and safety compliance programs, involving federal, state, and local regulations with limited resources,” said Jack McCarthy, President and co-founder of EH&E, a Needham, Mass.-based environmental services consulting firm.

In the white paper, titled “Three Proven Strategies for Upgrading Your Laboratory Environmental Health & Safety Program,” EH&E experts outline the strategies they have developed to maximize the effectiveness and the efficiency of these programs.

“Due to the complexity and ever-changing nature of research activities, laboratory EH&S programs can be extremely challenging to develop and maintain, yet are critical to the success of the company or institution they serve,” McCarthy said.

The white paper will demonstrate how laboratory managers, laboratory technicians, and EH&S directors can:

  • Improve EH&S program organization and accessibility
  • Expand the laboratory inspection program
  • Take a blended approach to laboratory safety training

New White Paper Details Six Steps to Investigate and Prevent Laboratory Accidents

NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS – October 9, 2007 – A new, free white paper, titled “A ‘Six Step’ Process to Investigate and Prevent Laboratory Accidents,” is now available for download at: www.eheinc.com/labaccidents.htm.

Laboratories are potentially dangerous work environments, and often contain a wide variety of toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive compounds. Accident prevention is imperative for any proactive health and safety program and accidents themselves, while unfortunate, present an opportunity to improve the performance of the laboratory safety program.

This white paper details the six key components of an accident investigation and mitigation program that are necessary to provide improvements in the overall safety program and prevent future accidents. The steps the white paper discusses include:

  • Notification and Response
  • Site Investigation and Interviews
  • Root Cause Analysis
  • Report of Findings and Review
  • Implement Corrective Measures
  • Monitoring

The author, Kevin Coghlan, M.S., C.I.H., Director of EH&S, Compliance & Strategic Support at EH&E, a Newton, Mass. based environmental engineering and consulting firm, has over 18 years of experience in assessing, evaluating, characterizing, and solving environmental problems in laboratories.

This white paper will be applicable to all those that work in laboratories, including managers, technicians, laboratory safety directors, and environmental health and safety officers.

New White Paper Details Strategies for Biotechnology Companies to Improve EH&S Compliance

NEWTON, MASS. – September 10, 2007 – A free white paper detailing strategies to help biotechnology companies improve compliance with federal, state, and local environmental health and safety regulations is available for download at: http://www.eheinc.com/pitfalls.htm.

The white paper, titled “Environmental Health and Safety Compliance in Biotech Companies: Common Deficiencies Encountered During Audits,” is based on an analysis of numerous program audits, and offers small and mid-size biotechnology companies an opportunity to avoid costly oversights.

“All biotechnology firms are required to meet complex regulatory compliance requirements from a variety of governing sources,” said Jack McCarthy, President and co-founder of EH&E (http://www.eheinc.com/), a Newton, Mass. based environmental engineering and consulting firm. “Larger firms employ full-time professional staff to manage their responsibilities. Small and mid-size firms often cannot afford the expense or dedicate the manpower to fully meet these requirements, and are therefore more at risk of violations and sanctions.”

Compliance areas covered by the white paper include:

  • Environmental Compliance (air emissions, wastewater, and waste management)
  • Permitting and Plans
  • Employee Training
  • Biosafety
  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • General Documentation Deficiencies

Within each compliance area, the white paper details examples of the most common violations encountered during routine audits and summarizes a list of recommendations for maintaining a continual high level of compliance using limited manpower. Download the free white paper at: http://www.eheinc.com/pitfalls.htm.

NEWTON, MASS. – July 18, 2007EH&E, a full service environmental engineering and consulting firm, has announced Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (DFCI), a leading cancer research and care center in Boston, Massachusetts as a new EH&E regulatory compliance support site client.

EH&E’s healthcare support site was designed to save valuable time and meet ever-changing OSHA and Joint Commission (formerly JCAHO) compliance challenges. The eH&E-Healthcare support site will specifically enable DFCI staff to more efficiently manage the facility’s Environment of Care (EC) compliance program and help meet new Joint Commission requirements for continuous compliance.

The customizable, web based support site, eH&E-Healthcare, is easily integrated with existing facility systems and processes for record keeping, data storage, permits, and employee training. eH&E-Healthcare provides direct support from EH&E experts through the site content, tools, expert advice, and organizational structure, helping to ensure facility compliance with current regulations.

Specific features of eH&E-Healthcare, such as the Hazard Surveillance Assistant and Pre-Construction Infection Control Risk Assistant, can help DFCI staff to ensure that rounds are conducted in a timely manner and add wireless capability, saving time and increasing efficiency.
